Gene Baxter, a longtime instructor here at William Holland, passed away on 04/19/2012. He was a wonderful man, a dear friend, and an invaluable part of William Holland. Our hearts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Services are to be held on 04/25/2012 at 11:00 AM at the Wages and Sons Stone Mountian Chapel. For more information, contact our office.

Every year, we open the school one week early and ask everyone to come and volunteer their time to help us do the work that gets the School ready for the season. This year, we will be opening the School on the week of 04/01/2012 and extending work week to those two weeks before the beginning of the season. If you would like to come and be a part of our wonderful School and help us be ready to offer the best classes and services we can to all of you, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know when you plan to be here so that we can have rooms prepared for you.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Belinda Miller. She and Rich Williams, who has been an instructor here at William Holland for many years, have always been dear friends of the School. We cannot say how much both of them have meant to all of us here at the School. Services will be held this friday. Rich asks that those wanting to make donations in her honor make those donations to William Holland Retreat Inc.

Mr. Paul Casteel passed away yesterday. He was a former member of William Holland's Board of Directors as well as one of our founding instructors (He taught Silver and even designed our silversmithing classrooms). Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. Services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetary in Jacsonville, FL this Saturday at 10:00 and a graveside service at 11:00.

All instances of the use of the term Dormitory to refer to our lodges in our Policies and Guidelines have been removed in order to prevent confusion. This term was previously used in order to make plain that our lodges are not indiviual cabins, but offer a situation much more like a dormitory or motel.

Today we updated our Policies and Guidelines to remedy some recent confusion. The text "All class fees and lab fees are payable directly to the instructor at the time you take your class. William Holland does not handle these charges." was added to the "Tuition Charges" section to make plain when and how these charges are to be paid.

John Eberle passed away peacefully December 26, 2012. He was a wondeful man; active in his community and beloved by his family. For many years, He taught cabochons and faceting here at William Holland. The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Copperhill, 146 Scenic Drive, Copperhill, Tennessee 37317 or to Ducktown Troop 14, in care of Ducktown Basin Museum, 212 Burra Burra Street, Ducktown, Tennessee 37326.

Thank you to all of those who have already submitted their application for classes during the 2012 season. We are doing our best to process as quickly as we can and get everyone into the classes they desire. If you haven't gotten your catalog yet or have not applied yet, we encourage you to check the online schedule and email us to get started applying. In website news, we have been able to enable scrolling of all text on our website on the iPad, iPod and other touchscreen devices. Support for these devices is far from complete, but it should make is much easier to use our website.

We do appoligize to all those who experienced a few issues with our website during the open of enrollment yesterday. Most issues were caused by the large volume of requests submitted during that time. All those who specifically had trouble getting classes to appear when selecting a week on our online application should have no further issues as we have corrected the cache control issues that caused this error. If you do have any problems accessing any portion of our site, contact us and we will do our best to resolve the issues. Touchscreen users (iPad, iPod, iPhone, and Android) should be aware that scrolling boxes will not scroll on their devices. We are still working to find a good fix for these issues.

The William Holland Alumni Association has awarded their first scholarship for a first-time student to Ms. Mary DeJan of Holly Hill, FL. She will be recieving room, board, and tuition as well as $100 toward supplies she needs in the classroom.

We invite all of our students to check out the refined and revised look, feel, and services offered by our website. As always our goal is to make our website as easy to use as possible. If you would like to contribute and idea or give us feedback, stop by our contact us form and let us know what you think.

We have updated our Policies and Guidelines and Privacy Policy in order to provide more information, correct errors, and take into account changes from the last posting. It is advised that all students read both of these policies before continuing their use of this website or the Services of William Holland Retreat Inc.

Only five more weeks until the start of the 2012 season. We are looking forward to having everyone here with us again and cannot wait for everyone to see the renovations we have made during the off season. If you have not yet applied for your classes, you will want to do so as quickly as possible because there are many classes already full throught the season. On a different note, we are looking forward to deploying the latest revisions to our website design. Our staff have been working very hard to rememdy the usability and compatablity concerns with the current design. The new design will move us forward in these respects and will also allow us to get a better base for introducing new featrues easily. We do not yet have a firm date for rolling out the new design, but we will let you know as soon as we do.
